Combining different materials is crucial to many technological applications, whether one is dealing with well-known natural substances or with novel artificial materials. Challenges inevitably arise when working with interfaces between divergent materials.
Over the last years, we have been able to apply and test our adhesion promoters in various projects, thus enlarging our knowledge and experience with adhesion processes. We have worked with polymers, glass, metal and ceramics, and have fine-tuned our coating technologies to the material combinations in question. One of our specialties is the functionalization of polymer substrates with polymer thin films.
Our most recent innovation (developed within an EU Marie Curie project) is based on a multimodal binding polymer, which offers essentially stronger adhesion than any former technology in this field. The mechanism we use allows us to either bind a polymer to various substrate materials simultaneously, or just selectively to one specific material.
